RedMagic 150W GaN Charger reaches ~US$50,000 mark in crowdfunding campaign

Dec 05, 2023

RedMagic seems to have gone all out to complement both its smartphone and PC gaming accessory lines in 1 product with the new 150W GaN Charger. The accessory also presents a headache for other products such as the Shargeek Storm2 power bank a run for its money, as both boast a full DC port in addition to USB type-C and -A ports.

Like the Storm2, the RedMagic 150W GaN Charger also boasts an active status display: a 1.5inch TFT screen in the case of the power brick. It can be set to show animated wallpapers as well as real-time power readouts, using the same Goper app as the OEM's new Cyberbuds DAO.

On that note, the GaN Charger boasts this new logo as well as its own RGB strip, which surrounds the PC case-like window through which some of its internals can be seen. Then again, there is no active fan, as with the new 8S Pro: the "fifth-gen gallium nitride" accessory depends on a "dual heat dissipation system with copper plates and gel" instead.

It may need all of that cooling, with dual up-to-140W type-C ports and an up-to-30W type-A port as well as the aforementioned top-speed DC port. The charger has a conventional power brick form-factor - yet is rated to assume a "desktop" mode with an "AC adapter cable".

It is included with each RedMagic 150W GaN Charger offered via Kickstarter, at a starting early-bird price of US$149. The campaign has amassed US$49,970 at the time of writing with 42 days left to go.
